ALLERGIES AND SENSITIVITIES

"Many of your vague, undiagnosed, and persistent symptoms may be from what you are eating, smelling, or touching."

Sandra Radomski ND, LCSW

I have trained to work with the Allergy AntidotesTM system developed by American psychotherapist and naturopathic doctor Sandi Radomski.  Sandi is a pioneer in the field of energy psychology treatment for allergy-like symptoms.

What is an Allergy?

In the Allergy AntidotesTM system we start with the premise that any substance can cause an allergy-like reaction, and any symptom could be caused by a substance sensitivity. This definition goes well beyond what most of us consider to be the classic symptoms of allergic reactions (runny nose, sneezing, rashes/hives etc.)

The Allergy AntidotesTM system identifies two major contributing factors to allergy-like reactions:

  1. Genetic Predisposition - we each have a certain level of genetic predisposition to allergies.  You are more likely to have an allergy if your parents or grandparents were very allergic, however your particular allergy may not be the same as theirs.

  2. Weakened immune system – our immune systems can be weakened by toxins, nutrient deficiency and/or trauma or stress.

A combination of your unique genetics and immune system stressors can lead your body to be triggered into an immune response by one or more of a multitude of substances you come into contact with.

Furthermore, we often see a “Rain Barrel Effect.”    Our immune system is constantly processing information to determine the safety of foods we ingest and substances that we are exposed to and adjusting itself in order to maintain balance (a"rain" of information).  Sometimes our system becomes overwhelmed (the "rain barrel" becomes full) and can no longer keep the balance. The barrel “overflows” and we begin to experience reactions to substances that used to cause no problems.  For example, sometimes after a period of stress in our life we might develop a cold sore or abdominal pain.  Once the stress reduces, our symptoms may disappear.

Allergies and Trauma/Distress

Allergic reactions to dangerous toxins are our body’s natural way of protecting us, and are an important evolutionary survival trait.  However, allergic reactions to substances that do not usually cause symptoms in most people are our body’s attempt to keep us safe from a substance that it perceives as dangerous.  The perception of danger can be established when the body is in the presence of a substance during a traumatic or stressful experience, and an unconscious link is made between the two. This phenomenon has been scientifically researched and documented in the field of Psychoneuroimmunology (PNI) – a term coined in the 1970s by researcher Robert Ader for a phenomenon that has been noticed and studied by physiologists since the beginning of modern medicine.

If the body has "learned" to have an allergic reaction, we believe it is possible to help the body "unlearn" it.

The Allergy AntidotesTM  System

The Allergy AntidotesTM  system views an allergen as anything that weakens the body’s energy system, and is aware that the symptoms can be both physical and emotional – examples include anxiety, depression, arthritis, respiratory problems, digestive problems, brain fog, chronic fatigue and panic attacks.

Identifying a Reactive Substance

If any substance can cause an allergy-like reaction, and any symptom could be caused by a substance sensitivity,how do we narrow it down to the substance or substances that your body is sensitive to?

Firstly, we discuss your symptoms, including any consultations you have had with healthcare professionals, and the results of diagnostic tests - it is important at all times to follow the advice of your healthcare professional and not change any medication or treatments without first consulting them.   We then do some detective work together, asking questions like when or where symptoms occur, when you feel fine, how long ago symptoms began, what changes were going on in your life at that time, family history of allergies etc.

Secondly, there may be substances you know you are allergic to.  You can bring samples of these substance/s to our session.

Thirdly, because we view allergens as weakening the body’s energy system we can identify them using non-invasive muscle testing. The version of muscle testing we use is adapted from Applied Kinesiology. It has the client hold the substance, or sometimes just think about the substance, while consistent pressure is applied to the client’s outstretched arm. If the arm weakens or “gives way” it is an indication that the substance is weakening the person’s energy system. I have a standard range of energy frequency tubes for some of the more common reactive substances:

  • The “top seven” allergenic foods in a typical western diet: dairy products, wheat, corn, eggs, soy, peanuts and sugar;

  • Other common allergens, such as petrochemicals, volatile organic substances, pesticides, cleaners, heavy metals, inks etc.

  • Water – because water can make up to 60% of our body weight (75% – 78% for babies), it is not uncommon to have a sensitivity reaction to water as a psychoneuroimmunological (PNI) response to trauma. Water it is of major importance to all of our body functions, so if we are not absorbing and using water properly this can give rise to any number of secondary symptoms;

  • The basic elements of life, which make up almost 99% of our body mass:  Oxygen, Carbon, Hydrogen, Nitrogen, Calcium, Phosphorus.

Fourthly, I am currently learning to work with a new development: the Allergy DetectiveTM, a purpose-designed App which assists me, via muscle testing, to rapidly and specifically identify the reactive substance behind a presenting symptom.

The EFT Component

Once a substance sensitivity has been identified, it may be addressed using EFT or one of a number of simple energy techniques. You focus on the substance (eg by holding the substance or a frequency tube of the substance, or thinking about it, or holding a piece of paper with the name of the substance) and we use tapping to re-educate your body that it is safe to be in the presence of the substance, or in the case of toxins, that it is safe to detox the substance out of your body.

There is no scientific evidence confirming the effectiveness of the Allergy AntidotesTM system for alleviating allergic reactions.  However, it has been shown anecdotally to help many people. Because I am still developing my skill in this area I offer allergy sessions for a koha/donation - you pay only to the level you feel you have received benefit. To book a session click here
